Understanding and Implementing 5010 and NCPDP D.0 Transactions in Coordination with ICD-10 Code Sets

This module provides payers and providers with an understanding of the 5010 and NCPDP D.0 electronic transactions and that it is not merely an “upgrade” to the current 4010 transactions, as it includes both changes to current transactions and adds new transactions. Also included are the recommended processes and timetables for 5010/NDPDP D.0 and ICD-10 implementations, which overlap to ensure timely completion of the compliance process. Waiting to complete 5010/NCPDP D.0 implementation and testing by January 1, 2011, before beginning ICD-10 compliance, as suggested by CMS, will virtually guarantee that organizations will not be ready by the October 1, 2013, date for ICD-10 compliance.
